Oracle of Fairy-Tale Beings
Mountain Lord
The Mountain Lord knows who enters the mountains with respect and who has come merely to take something away.
Card meaning
The Mountain Lord—Krakonoš in Czech folklore—is the legendary guardian of the Giant Mountains. He walks the ridges as an old pilgrim, hunter or mighty lord of the wind, protecting forests, springs and animals and watching closely everyone who enters his land. He shows an honest person the way, helps them in need and rewards their humility. The greedy visitor who takes more than they need he leaves to wander in the mist—or shows how small they are before the power of the mountains. You too are entering a place, relationship or situation where you are not the only master. You may gain a great deal there, but only if you respect other people’s boundaries and do not treat everything around you as plunder.
Advice
Treat with respect the people, places and things from which you draw. Take only what you truly need and remember to give something good in return.
Shadow
Do not make yourself lord of the mountains, punishing everyone by your own rules. Protection can become pride if you believe that only you know who deserves to pass and who should remain beyond the mist.
